WHAT TO EXPECT First of all a warm welcome. From the greeters at the door to the people you will meet inside, Harvest is a warm and friendly church. As far as our style of service goes we describe ourselves as a contemporary, bible-believing, charismatic church.
By contemporary we mean that we are modern in our style: We use the New International Version of the bible, we use the latest worship and praise songs, we have a full band of musical instruments and our dress style is generally casual. We even have a very informal coffee break to help people connect with one another.
By bible-believing we mean that we adhere to the fundamental truth of the bible, that is, we don’t take away from it and we don’t add to it.
By charismatic we mean that we fully embrace the empowering and indwelling work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer. In our worship services it’s not unusual to see charismatic gifts, like prophecy, word’s of knowledge, prayer for healing, worshipping in tongues or other biblical gifts at work in various degrees.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? Be comfortable! Just dress the way you would if you were going to go and relax with some friends. Harvest is like a family and one of the true values of a good family is that we are accepted for who we are. So, just be comfortable and we will too.
WHAT ABOUT CHILDREN? We love children. It’s not unusual to have children swirling flags around or really getting into the music on a Sunday morning. As a contemporary church most of our music is upbeat and lively and our kids love to clap and jump along to the music. At 11:00 AM our various Children’s Church classes begin and the kids are invited to go and enjoy some excellent time learning practical tools and spiritual truths that will help them grow in their relationship with God.
For those parents who have little babies, we do have an excellent nursery facility during the service to help take care of them.
HOW MANY PEOPLE ATTEND HARVEST? If everyone was present on a Sunday morning there would be more than 200 people but as many of our people are involved in serving in many different ministries in Calgary, in the nation and internationally, we would probably average around 150 on Sunday morning. As a result the church is large enough to offer many different ministries for our family while still being small enough for new people to connect and get involved if they want to.
WHAT ABOUT MONEY? AM I EXPECTED TO GIVE? We never expect our guests to give anything and money never plays a big part in our worship gatherings. As a church we do teach the tithing principle which those who are part of our family are mostly committed to. This is how the church pays for staff, for facilities, for ministry resources, for leadership training and equipping, for helpful programs and for many of our social building and community outreach activities. It is our hope that everyone who would call Harvest their family would be a contributing member in all kinds of practical ways including financially.
