A mission is defined as the pursuit of a specific task or duty. At Harvest we feel that God has given us a very specific task to “Make Disciples who Love God and Live for HIS Purpose”. As a result of this mission everything we do as a church is carried out with this task in mind. It is our hope that everyone who makes Harvest their Home will embark on the journey of a lifetime which will see them become Disciples who Love God and who discover and live the rest of their lives for His Purpose. As a local church we make it clear that being engaged in God’s purpose is the highest calling that anyone can attain. To help people achieve these goals we have set in motion the following principles:
We have taken our mission from FOUR passages of Scripture that encapsulate the very heart of God for our world.
- Mark 12:30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' 31 The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."
- John 13:34 "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
- Mark 16:15 He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.
- Matt 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.""
1. We will MAKE DISCIPLES by:
- Teaching & Preaching the Word of God without compromise but yet tempered with much love and grace.
- Training & Equipping God's people to become ministers of His grace through seminars, conferences and classes.
- Encouraging genuine community through involvement in Life Groups.
- Creating opportunity to grow in faith through leading and serving.
2. We will LOVE GOD by:
- Placing a high value on Worship as a lifestyle and not just an event!
- Practicing the basic principles of Loving one another, Forgiving one another, Encouraging one another and Blessing one another.
- Being obedient to the commands of Christ and the scriptures.
- Sharing HIS MERCY AND GRACE with everyone we can.
3. We will LIVE FOR HIS PURPOSE by:
- Discovering our Spiritual Gifts and our Natural Passions and then using them for God's purpose
- Developing what God has given us so that we can strive for excellence in all that we do.
- Doing what we can do and then believing that God will do what He said He would do!
It was no accident or coincidence that Harvest Church was conceived and birthed as a local church. When we look at how far we have come, we are amazed at God's faithfulness. When we look at the work yet to be done, we remember that Jesus said, "Apart from Me, You can do nothing". He also said "If I am lifted up (exalted, praised, worshipped) I will draw all people unto me".
To fulfill God’s mission we will remain passionate in our quest to grow in our love for God by growing our intimacy with Christ; through preaching the Word of God without compromise, by making room for the Holy Spirit to move in our lives and through developing everyday lifestyles of worship.
As we grow in our love for God His love and we become more aware of His love for us then His purpose will begin to shape and direct our personal lives, our church life and overflow into our community, city and beyond. We are so aware of our weaknesses, yet we are in awe of God's Grace which constantly helps us to do the very things which we could not do on our own.
As Harvest we are confident that God has given us a MISSION to fulfill! Mission is accomplished when people understand the task to be completed and then make a decision to invest time, energy and resources into getting the task done. This practical outworking in everyday life is called ... Vision.
